hi all. hope someone can help me. just looking for some info for my mother who recently turned 66. she applied for the state pension (means tested as she never worked) my dad claims for her as a dependend adult on his pension and recently got an increase as mam turned 66. my mother now dose not want to bother getting the pension in her name as there is a lot of paperwork involved in the means test.

my question is can she cancel her claim without affecting what my dad claims for her or dose she have to claim the pension in her own name now that she is pension age?

Does the increase mean your dad is now getting €206 for your mum? If so, and she doesnt want to bother going ahead with her application and she has already sent away the form, she should write to them telling them that she wants to withdraw her application and ask them to return any supporting documentation she had sent with the application. Your dad will continue to get the €06 for her, she doesnt have to apply for a pension in her own right, butthe choice is hers. Also, she can get the €206 paid to herself, either into the PO or into her own bank A/C if that would suit them better.

    thanks for the reply.

yes dad is getting 206 for her as a dependant adult. it was 156 or something like that. she has already met the assessor there last week but she has to get more paper work and return it. i presume this is only if she was to continue to make a claim in her own name?

so if she wishes to withdraw the claim she can contact them and request to cancle the claim and get any paper work she sent with the claim back (even if its only photocopys?) thats sounds good. do you know who she contacts? is it the assessor or the welfare office?

    thanks

Yes, she only would provide more paperwork if she wished to persue her application for a non-con pension. Ring 1890 500000, follow the prompts to "state pension non-contributory", have your mothers PPS number ready, it should be no bother to have her application withdrawn , and her documentation returned to her. Happy retirement to her!:)
