    Hi All
Quick question for ya'll, can't seem to get a straight answer online anywhere.
GF is just about to buy a 2008 1.3l Diesel Opel Astra Coupe GTC, but was wondering if it has a timing chain or a timing belt....

Anyone know for sure bout this?
    Cheers

    HB

    Deffo chain in 1.3 cdti.
Biggest worry with these is egr valve sticking.
    Great little engine though.
Just get the oil changed at least every 16k klms and it will be fine.

    As said, they are chain.

Tensioners can give issue if not service regularly with the correct oil.

Only other thing to mention is to make sure she needs a diesel. Unless she is doing plenty of motorway mileage then its pointless and may end up costing much more then a 1.4 petrol.

Yep she does 70 miles a day on a Motorway so she reckons the Diesel is the way to go.
She's gonna miss her MX-5 tho :( as am I

Ok totally unrelated but she decided to go for the Opel and took delivery of it last night.
Thing is she noticed some damage to the front passenger bumper and wing that was NOT there on Saturday when we took it for a test drive.
I have pics to prove it wasn't damaged then and showing the damage now.
The salesman claimed that she did the damage from the time she collected the car to the time she reached my house to let my brother (a mechanic) look it over..... which she did not!
My GF noted the mileage and there was 12km put on it since we first drove it, even though the salesman is claiming nobody has driven it since she did.
It's gonna cost 300 quid to sort the damage.... we have sent the dealership both sets of pictures.... is there anything else we could be doing???

    Regards

If paid by cheque, cancel it. That will soften their cough. Then tell them you will release the funds when the car is repaired to your satisfaction. That the only way they'll see sense. Garages are notorious for that kind of obstinate behaviour. You will have to assert your rights in a no-nonsense manner to get action.

Wasnt paid by cheque.... finance arranged on the car through the dealership
Not surprised that they're always thought of as dodgy really
    Cheers anyway

Happened to us once. Collected a car for the other half, I realised after driving it 10 mins that there was a lot more wind noise than I'd remembered from my test drive a few days earlier. On stopping and inspecting I realised the window frame was bent and just pushed back badly and thus not sealing. I also noticed the car radio seemed different. Brought the car back and the garage (main dealer) denied anything had changed on it, but I'm certain it must have been broken into and the radio stolen then replaced. I was all for giving it back. But They gave us an extra 6 months warranty on it as goodwill and she really liked it. So I kinda left it to her, and she accepted the warranty. Just before the warranty finished went we took it for a long weekend away, and it started leaking oil around the gearbox. They ended up replacing the clutch (contaminated) and a few other things under warranty. The car last us for 13 yrs or so. So it worked out ok.

The neck of them denying the damage and change of radio still bugs me. Never trust anyone even a main dealer. Especially a main dealer.

Do you have photos of the mileage? No denying that.

Afraid not... actually can't believe my luck I had pics of the non-damaged bumper and wing. Just happened to have the camera in my pocket....

Then its a bit harder to prove you didn't do it. Do you have any print outs or documentation of the mileage.

    UPDATE:
The dealer has agreed to repair the car to the condition it was in when we drove it first !!!!
Doesn't compensate for the stress/worry that it put my GF through but good news anyway...

Tell them she would like to exercise her right to change her mind using the 14 day cooling off period after finance has been granted ;)

Ignore, just spotted it's been resolved

Good news for you. Why, oh, why are dealers so obstinate:mad: No wonder they have such a watery reputation:mad:
