A Real Job

You often hear people say ''get a real job'' or ''thats not a real job'' etc. What is a real job?

More often then not when someone works in a shop for example people class that as ''not a real job'' where as say working in a bank is a ''real job''. Why does society looked down and cless people as not having a real jobe? In alot of ways the person who works in a shop is almost as imporant as someone who works in bank or is an account seeing as everyone needs food to live but you could get along just fine without an account.

Also if a young person was to say for example they wanted to be a Postman, more then likely they would be told they ambition and were wasting there time.

I find that any job that someone can work part-time in is not seen as a "real job".

    Bullsh|t, imo, as this would include;
    shops
    pubs
    cinemas
    hotels

And pretty much any entertainment or tourism business.

the service industry is very much under valued in Ireland, people go around taking lots of things for granted, not realising how everyone plays there part every part in important.

Some people are insecure. They will convince themselves and attempt to convince others that they rank supreme for whatever it is they decided to do with their life. They achieve this by creating yet more class divides in order to put distance between themselves & others in order to stand out more and to feel superior.

It's their problem, not yours, so don't lose sleep over it. If you are happy with your life and the way it's going, good job!, if not, identify what it is you want and what you need to do to get there.

    Phase 3....profit! ;)

This is usually aimed at underachievers by people that believe that they could be doing better, like parents to their children. Or alternatively at people that are overqualified for the jobs that they are doing.

It should be taken as a twisted compliment IMHO.

The person is saying that you are wasting your talent in your current role.

Some jobs require a lot of education, training and skill (doctors and other professions). Some people might view retail and similar employment areas as jobs that people from any background can walk in and out of on a part-time basis. Doesn't make those jobs any less important or valuable. Just means they are perhaps more accessable in terms of entry and exit.

In these recessionary times, a job is a job. So many of us don't have one and can't get one for love nor money. It is better to have any job than no job, so the 'not a real job' people are living in la-la land.

Thats true but there still are people who think it. At the moment there are alot of door to door sales jobs out there and because people cant find anything ealse they will do them. They would be a prime example of ''not a real job''

I agree. I have a lot of those salespeople on my doorstep daily. I try to be as nice as I can to them because I know many just have to do that work. However, I'm get a tad tetchy with the really pushy ones.
