Working while on the BTWEA

I have been on the BTWEA for 6 months now. I have been finding it very hard to get good information on the rules of the scheme.

As I understand it, I am allowed to do a limited amount of taxable work employed by some one else. Does anyone know what the limit is? Someone told me that I just need to earn more from self employment than regular employment.

Can anyone shed some light for me?

There is no limit to the amount you can work/earn while on BTEA.
BTEA is not a means tested payment, as long you are still a full time registered student you can continue to receive the payment.
Once your college course finishes up for the summer, you may not have an entitlement to claim a jobseeker's payment then however if you are working full time.

Sorry I read your question wrong - I thought it was BTEA not BTWEA - thanks to Balagan for pointing this out to me.

The guidelines for BTWEA do not mention what happens when the claimant begins working. The BTWEA section in Carrick on Shannon should be able to advise you fully on this.

The BTWEA works in a similar way to BTEA. There is no limit to the amount of other work that you do, either as an employee or other self-employment. You must still be trading with the company that you are in receipt of BTWEA for. If you stop trading, you must inform the department, and they will stop your allowance. If you still meet the qualifying criteria for Jobseekers Allowance, you can go back on to your JA claim.

To qualify for the BTWEA in the first place, your business plan must be for a full-time business or it will not be approved. Once you start the BTWEA the Department do not have any further dealings with your business.

All extra income that you get from employment or self employment is of course subject to tax/prsi/usc in the normal way.
