Bad Sectors On Disk

Hi there, built a new PC about a week ago, and since ive built it and installed windows 7 Pro on it, the 4th or 5th time i boot it, it hangs, system repair and restore cant fix it, and I am left to re-install. Now the disk isnt even recognised by windows when i go to restore, and when i boot into fedora live, the system tells me that the hard disk is reporting problems, when i go in to check , the disk is fine in all ways, except that it has 107 bad sectors, and im told to replace the disk immediately. I dont know what to do now, was the disk bad from the time ive bought it, or is it going to be impossible to return as the issue was caused by windows?

Anyone any suggestions, please, I need this machine up and running as quick as possible for college!!

    thanks in advance guys!

Hi, as this is your second post you may not be aware that there is a PC Building & Upgrading forum in Computers & Technology - in case your problem is related to the fact that it's a self-build.

Up above, click the first occurance of 'Computers & Technology' (beside 'Tech'), you'll see the forum link there.

Bad Sectors=Faulty hard disk so should be replaced under warranty. If you want to confirm the hard disk is faulty download the manufacturers diagnostics tool

Windows wouldn't have caused the issue: it's the hard drive itself that's the problem. If you can, return it under the warranty.

ok, thanks guys, il get onto sending that back tomorrow! Managed to salvage an old, noisy 160GB disk for the time being. Thanks for the help, thats the second hitatchi disk ive bought in my life, and its the second that has failed!

on a side note, anyone here experienced with sending stuff back to dabs.ie and how helpful/ quick they are with the process?

Wouldn't be a fan of hitachi myself, although some swear by them. Actually Hitachi baught IBMs hard disk division years back, the drives were called "Deskstar" but were so unrelyable they became known as "Deathstar" :P .
Anyways yeah return the drive, most modern hard disks are relyable enough, I think you were just unlucky tbh :)

yeah, ive heard the deathstar joke before alright! it was the only 1TB drive in stock and in budget at the time. Think il be staying samsung or western digital.

Once again, thanks a million guys! il be back if i have anymore issues/ have my post levels high enough to thank ye're posts! :p

Yeah those are a good choice :) . Seagates recent drives have been dodgy apparently but have to say havn't had much bad expierience with them in the past. I'd reccmoend Samsung drives though :) .
To be able to thank I think you need 10 posts, not far off it now :)
