I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem with Windows 7, no errors reported, nothing just wont start.
Cant find any answers anywhere, so just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem.

And what would be a good third party alternative.
I was looking at Acronis True Image, or Rebit,??

Is it Windows wont boot and you want the files off the disk? If so download the Ubuntu iso, burn it to a blank CD and boot Ubuntu in "Try/Live mode".
Then under places when Ubuntu loads click on the hard disk and your files will be in Users/[Your Name]/Desktop, Pictures,Documents, Music, Download etc. You can plug in an external hard disk and copy them over, or burn them to CDs/DVDs

Windows will boot up just fine, it's the backup program within Windows that wont start, so automatic backup is no more, gone.
I'am trying to see if it's turned off somewhere, but I cant find anything.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I've used Acronis for about 10 years and very happy with it.

Does the backup program show any errors or anything while it refuses to start?

No,does not show anything, just says, your last backup did not complete successfully, check backup. No file errors or disk errors. It's got to be turned off somewhere. It was working fine for the last couple of years, I'am on my third external hard drive.

Thanks unkl, I think I'll go with Acronis seems to be one of the best out there.

Just a quick update, if anyone's interested, finally found an error code which is, 0x81000031, I'am not the only that has this problem.
    Found solution here, ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/a66c9a05-13ab-46fc-a649-9e93b3773853 ).

In my case it was drive letter (k) that was in my libraries folded and Windows backup could not find it, it was empty so deleted it , and backup is running in the background, perfect.
