Lubuntu Install problems

Hey guys, I got an Asus k52f here.

Been trying to install Lubuntu 11.10, AMD64 version all day and can't get it to work.

Tried a usb boot first, downloaded unetboot, got all the files from the ISO onto a usb etc. Restarted the laptop went into bios and set the usb as the first boot option. No dice. Goes straight into a windows boot every time, tried this repeatedly, tried with a different USB too still no luck.

So I tried a CD boot instead. Used Daemon tools lite and astroburn to get the files onto the cd, restarted etc, got to the Lubuntu screen where you choose to boot with/out installing etc. Chose to install right away, nothing happens for a while then I get two green lines of what seems like code at the top except with bits cut off. After a while this goes to a black screen where something along the lines of ''kernel panic, failed to sync'' comes up and a few more lines of code. Then it freezes completely and I have to restart. Tried booting without install, still no luck.

    So, help anyone?

    For starters,

Did you check the .iso wasn't corrupted in any way ?
Check the md5 maybe to confirm ?

Hey, how would I do either of them? This is my first run with any Linux distro. Thanks.

Hey again, didn't want to start a new thread for this but, do far Ubuntu is great, much more responsive than windows and boot times at 40 seconds, happy days. Only problem I'd the less than optimal battery time. I'm getting 1hr 30mins, whereas on windows I'd get 2+ hours. I'm running 10.04 btw, and most the power saving options are on, dimming the brightness etc. Thanks again.
