Because it's a bone of contention.

IF you are a white belt in gi but higher in nogi does that make you two different grades or one grade in nogi and one grade in gi.

Long story sort the whole argument is a load of crap and there is no universal agreement on it.

absolutely nothing to do with your question but just a random thought...as a 'grappling' coach if somebody with very strong emotional attachment to either 'gi' or 'nogi' asks me for advice on how to improve the best i can give them is to train in the other for a couple months.

Ok Dermighty, thanks for the answer. I tought i seen somewhere on a website rashgaurds with the bjj colours on them so i just presumed they do grading for nogi also.

Next Generation is considered a no-gi school and grades are awarded by Chris Brennan in the form of appropriately coloured t-shirts, or more recently using rash guards with the sleeves representing grade (see attached)

Information on our school can be found in my sig

    Dylan

You probably did... but people tend to just wear the nogi rashguard relevant to their gi belt colour...

Luta Livre is graded using the same belt heirarchy as bjj.
