When are we supposed to be in for that ? Id say if we get a layer of snow then the feeding habits of rabbits will be seriously affected. If its just harsh frost then Id say they will be out around mid day because that's when any ground will be de-frosted and will give them the best chance to feed.

Great!! The cold weather decides to come when the game seasons nearly over. Was a crazy mild season and birds were not anywhere to be seen like last year

Because they were hammered by the weather and if you remember we had a really bad May which probably took out some of the young aswell.

What i have noticed is there are very few wild birds around such as Robins and Tits etc...........Anybody else noticed this?

There was a lot of snipe around me this year, on nearly every field they were so wet, phesants were very quiet, I expect them to all come out next week, a good few woodcock if you go looking in the right places and no ducks at all. I have a herd of tits and finches at my feeders every day around 20 at a time and theres a few robbins too!!

All the ducks must have came to leitrim cause the place is black with them since the 1st flooding we got this season.we had bad rain last night and i got a call at 12 to head out asap as one of the boys had 8 shot earlier..last year was pretty poor i thought.. we a re spoiled for choice I have to say.we've any amount of lakes, streams, bogs, flooded fields, ponds, wide drains and the Shannon.Rabbits are the only species that are very scarce in my area

Its a sight the way its gone. When the weather picks up in April i'm going to 3 locations to ferret 40 or so and release them on our land, they are hedge rabbits and there's a few old abandoned burrows they can live in. It be nice if one wanted a stew

And if they were there before??It's not like he is releasing a species that wasnt there in times past ,within living memory...IE within the last few years. Not centuries ago like wild boar.Be more like restocking...Its a rather vauge POL as is usual in Irish law.:(

Jesus, lads dont shoot the messenger

Dont know the ends and out of it but like Robbie said there was a thread on it before

As far as I know once you trap a wild animal you are not supposed to releas it elsewhere, could be to do with disesae control for all I know.
I'm not telling you lads what to do or what not to do.

As for finding the law regarding, 4200fps you can do your own research
I wouldnt even know where to start

Hey folks we looked into this in the past and unfortunately, as with a lot of shooting/hunting related issues, the legislation is less than crystal clear.

    To sum up:
You can to do it if you have permission, don't break any cruelty laws or clash with the Dept. of Agriculture who are the body who deal with the transport of animals legislation(don't have a clue about Dept of Ag being honest)

You can't capture and sell them (without dealers license) for release elsewhere because of an amendment to section 45 of the wildlife act in 2000.

The thread that came up here was a guy looking to buy live rabbits for release which seems to be a definite no no without a dealers license.

But im not buying or selling them, these farmers wants them all shot/taken of their land. Not being smart but you can blow their heads off but you cant capture them to bring home unharmed?

Other people reading the thread might be thinking of selling them so the advice is for anyone who does a search and may read this thread now or in a years time.
