Second hand tyres

Forgive me if there is a thread about this already but I've only heard about it recently.

A fella in my local town has started selling second hand tyres. Seemingly he imports them from Germany from people who swap their tyres for winter ones. Personally I find it difficult to comprehend how anyone would just get rid of tyres that are still roadworthy.

Is this a new phenonomen or am I leading a sheltered life? Anyone use these so called second hand tyres?

I bought part worns from www.tyreland.ie lately and have no complaints. They were a fraction of the cost of brand new tyres and come fully guaranteed.

In parts of Germany, you have to change your tyres to winter ones every year. They take up quite a bit of space even in a shed, and if you live in an apartment, you don't have much choice.

Storage wouldn't be cheap either

They are perfect, just give the tyre a visual check yourself first op.

They are much better than new chinese rubbish tyres..

I heard about this last week, but the story went that in Germany you are not permitted to get a puncture fixed, instead you have to replace the tyre so these guys import them, fix the puncture, and sell them at a knock down price.

Someone in work was telling me, some place in swords, he got a full set for his BMW (no info on size/type) for €160.

Ive got plenty of pairs of them at this stage, never had a problem. good value for money and your getting anywhere between 40-70% of thread on a premium tyre for half the price of a full threaded rubbish tyre.

I also have never got one that has had a puncture repaired on it.

Nothing new loads of places sell them,
I've used them loads of times you can get a decent tyre 75% plus for €30 or a little more depending on size.
Just eyeball the tyre you don't want any bumps or bulges.

Yeh sounds like a great deal. I'll be remembering it for the future. This place in swords definitely said they were repaired punctured tyres.

Enjoy them while you can because I'll bet in a year or two we'll have a similar law to Germany brought in here.
Probably right after the rubber tax is introduced ;-)

Part worn premium brand tyres are better than some of the rubbish brand new budget tyres.

On Friday I decided to go down the part-worn tyre route as well and I was somewhat amazed at the difference.

The car handles much better and a vibration was driving me crazy which dissappered when the continentals replaced the chinese rubbish on the front.

Like Corkie and Bazz said I would much rather the part-worns over the budget tyres.
