Disability Allowance question

    Hi,

I have recently been awarded Disability Allowance after an appeal...I have a couple of questions, tried searching on Google but received different answers/

First is regarding credit contributions, from welfare site it states....

"Credited contributions or ‘credits’ help protect your future entitlement to social welfare payments.

You can get ‘credits’ automatically while you are getting Disability Allowance if you have paid at least one PRSI contribution and have paid or credited contributions in either of the last two income tax years before you made your claim for Disability Allowance. ‘Credits’ are usually awarded at the same rate as your last paid contribution."

** Does that mean, if i was missing say 3 contributions to receive/qualify Jobseekers Benefit, i would be fine to apply for it say in 2 months time If i get better? (For JB)? I believe i have 100 weeks of contribution instead of required 104

** Am i able to travel outside the state to UK for a weekend? To see my family. Do i have to let the office know first?

    Thanks

    You need paid contributions.
Means you have to work. But since you are on DA you do not pay anything into the system. You only get credited contributions from the state- that does not count for you to get the JB.
There are two types of contributions: Credited and paid.
Paid credits are put onto your account when you are working. It is taken from your pay.
Credited contributions are given to you on certain shemes when you are unemployed or sick. It is only a fictional sum and more a time filler to explain your non-payment of real contributions.
To get JB you need a certain amount of each in a given time frame of 3 years.
No work means no paid contributions- you will be still short of the required amount.
A lot of people get confused about this....
About travelling. It depends on your illness. If you are able to travel you can ask the department about this. I would not do it without asking. Looks bad if you get a visit from an inspector- and you are on holidays.
