Htc desire so slow

Hi all well today my phone is so slow done the usual switched off and on,like for a text it take a good while for the letters to appear and as for photo gallery its takes ages.Can anyone help me.I dont have loads of apps either.

Remove battery for 30sec.
Check internal storage
Have you ever update new soft on this phone?
If this doesn't help then let us know.

Is the phone on a stock rom? if so you will find that a custom rom will speed up the phone 2x

Sorry for delay I done an update about 3 days before hand my first time doing it,It seem to be ok now so fingers crossed thanks for help While i have you there do you know of any app I can download if ever my phone was robbed like the iphone has some device that can turn off the phone and its just a brick.Everyone I know has Iphone im the only one with HTC desire.
