    Hello All,

Just bought a car which is a UK import. It was registered in the UK in Marck 2008.

Will I pay moror tax on the old motor tax rates or the CO2 emmission rate once it is registered here next week?

    Thanks

you have the option of the cheaper of either emissions or cc based. if emissions is cheaper then you will be given that rate,or vice versa.

VRT - CO2 as per any import.
Motor Tax - CO2 rates (unless its cheaper to go cc rates, not 100% on this, you may have no choice but CO2 rates.)

2008 or newer imports automatically go on the Co2 system. The option to go on the cheaper of the two was only available to original Irish registerd cars registered between Jan 1st 2008 and June 30th 2008.

No, option is available to all imports first registered in country of origin between jan1 and jun30 '08. see extract below taken from

    http://kildare.ie/CountyCouncil/MotorTax/co2Emmissions/

"What happens to 2008 cars registered abroad and subsequently registered in Ireland on or after 1 July 2008?"

2008 cars registered abroad between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008 and subsequently registered in Ireland on or after 1 January 2008 will be liable for motor tax on the same basis as cars registered within the State during that period, i.e. at the lower rate of our two motor tax systems for cars.
