vokera system gas boiler not turning on

earlier tonight the vokera system gas boiler started making a loud hissing water pressure noise - i turned it off - now it will not fire/turn on - the pressure on it normally 1/1.5 bar now zero

I thought it was the top up filling valve in hot press but that valve is open as there is a pressure release valve on it - that shows zero too.

i thought no mains water but there is

i noticed the copper pipe that comes out the external wall from the boiler has a big pool of water under it. No obvious leaks anywhere in house

Any ideas what this is as now cold here in Limerick

Hey Eurasianbadger.... sounds like the 3bar safety valve on your boiler has popped. That is what the copper pipe that goes out the external wall is connected to. The most likely reason it has popped is because the expansion vessel inside the boiler has not been serviced. In which case, when your boiler heats up, the expanding water has nowhere to go...and so the safety valve pops. You will need a service person (RGII registered) to recharge the vessel, and replace the popped safety valve. For the time been, u can bring the pressure back up on the boiler and let it heat for a little while.... but keep an eye on the pressure as when it gets close to 3bar, the valve will pop again and release the water..... i know this doesnt fix your problem right now, but hope it helps.

Can u advise on how to bring back up the pressure. The Topup valve in hot press is open but pressure not rising in system

Also it's possible the membrane in the vessel has perforated and recharging wont do anything so it's possible it will need replacing also.

Can you post a pic of your top-up valve situation in your hot press? there might be a thumb valve some where not obvious.

If you manage to top it up dont leave it like this for weeks. Ring someone tomorrow to have a look at it.

Constantly putting fresh water into the system is very bad for it.

Like JohnnieK says, check the filler valve/assembly for the system, there is usually more then one valve on these. Other than actually seeing what the assembly is I cant say. You might have low pressure in the area.

got a great local rgi guy out. safety valve popped and the pressre release valve in hotpress locked tight (dunno). he reopened the pressure release valve and system flling. he thinks expansion vessel punctured as water dripping from the exteral pipe will have better look tomorrow

thanks for help lads - basking in hea again

Good stuff, but make sure he replaces the Safety Valve ....because once they pop, its not very likely that it will make its seal again. Learned that the hard way :D

Any suggestions re which of the following boilers are best?
    Vokera (B&Q)
    Ideal Logic Private comapny)
    Dimplex Firebird (Electric Ireland)

The three companies are pitching different boiler makes as part of their SEAI boiler upgrade offer however Im unsure re which one is best.

    Thanks GM35
