Just a quick question - was test driving an 04 Corolla today and was wondering if the odometer was in miles or kilometers? It read 130k which is a lot for a 8 year old car if it is in miles and might put me off buying it even if it's very reasonably priced, which it is.

Unless it was late 04 it'd be miles.

If the clocks read in both mph and kms (old type) the odometer would be in miles

if the clocks read in km only, the odometer will be km

If the corolla didnt have remote locking, then it's in miles.

High mileage does not automatically equate to hard driving.

A car with a quarter of that mileage could be in worse condition. The little old lady who drives her car to the shops once a week grinding gears and sitting on the clutch, that never had an oil change as oppossed to a rep who drives up and down the motorway network but has his car serviced on schedule. I know which one I would buy.

My car is nearly at 140k and it's an 06.

Been well looked after and not driven hard. How does mileage indicate its been driven hard?

I think it is an Irish thing. Anything with 100k or more on the clock is considered a ticking timebomb that could explode at any time.
