Advert.ie meeting in town

    Hi guys.

I'm in a dilemma at the moment about something and I'm hoping some good advice can be given as it usually is.

I have been emailing and texting a seller of a mobile phone on Advert.ie who seems very nice. The problem is I want to buy it and it costs 200 quid. Now ideally I would like to meet up at his house so if I am scammed then I know where the person lives.

I Pmd him on adverts last night asking could I meet at his house to which I got no reply. So today I asked him is there any chance I could get the phone off him this weekend. He replied saying ''The phone is in his office in Merrion sq.we can meet somewhere there''

Maybe I'm being super skeptical.Like I said he seems legit but I just find it hard giving 200 euro to a stranger in the middle of a street for a phone. He said he has the 02 warranty etc.My sister got scammed last year for Oxegen ticket on the street so maybe I'm being too meticulous.

Anyway, any advice whatsoever would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

It could be dodgy, there's no way to tell for sure. Tell him you'll be nowhere near Merrion during the day, and ask him to bring the phone home with him Monday night and you'll meet him there. If he makes an excuse on that, then I'd walk away.

I sell lots of items on boards, Ebay and the like, I will never let some one come to my house to collect. I will meet them in a public place where we both are happy with, I will also never sell or buy from any one who doesn't have a perfect history. If you feel uncormfortable about it don't meet him, there are loadsa phones one auction sites.

Can I ask why is it that you feel uncomfortable with them calling to your house

    Thanks for the replies

I would be apprehensive buying from someone without knowing where they live if it was as much as €200. I've bought from people in their homes and had people in my home and I've always felt better doing that way. If you are getting a bad vibe walk away. there will be other phones but the €200 is irreplacable. If you do want to go ahead though explain to the seller that you would feel better handing over the money if you knew where he lived. If he has a problem with that then you have your answer.

just the way i am I suppose. I have never had an issue and i have sold goods in excess of €500. As i said check the sales history and if you have any doubt, walk away.
