Hey all have a problem with a Mac Book Pro.

I want to do a clean install from boot and it wont let me, it just hangs with the apple and the gear spinning.

I have tried 2 different OSX discs one being Leopard and One Snow Leopard and have also tried to install off a USB stick but that doesnt work either they all just hang.

The Mac is working fine with 10.6.8 on it and doesnt crash I just want to start a fresh as we all do sometimes.

I can start the install from the desktop when booted which is not ideal as I really want to format and clear completely but again it throws up an error as seen in this short vid I put up to show you

Any Ideas would be great around now

"all these discs have worked fine in the past on G5 and Mac Pro tower but I cant see how a mac book Pro can cause me so much grief" :D

    Thanks again for reading!

Ok so its a kernel panic. I know this won't solve your problem, but when I was making hackintoshes before I got my macs, this used to happen when the disk I was using didn't have the drivers and compatability for the hardware. Just wondering if these disks are actually compatable with the macbook. Maybe i'm talking rubbish

No your on the right track taylorconor95...

Apple use specific builds for each Mac on the packaged disc when its released so your probably trying to install a build that is incompatible with your MBP. So the G5 disc might have 10.5.4 on it while the Mac Pro disc might have 10.6.3 on it. These will nearly always produce a kernel panic or a system freeze if you try to install onto another Mac cause there only designed for the Mac it came packaged with.

Rather than the last release what you actually need is the base release, so that would be 10.6. In this case you need Snow Leopard 10.6 build 10A432. This is the build on any disc you would buy from Apple, they don't sell those machine specific builds to the public. Then you can just update that to 10.6.8.
