Have to replace 42" TV - Help Me!

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I have to replace a 42" TV.

It was a Philips 42" HDMI job, would have been top spec around 2007 maybe. 1080p and all the rest of it.

Does anybody know where I'd find the cheapest 40-42" TV anywhere?
Doesn't need to be big name brand, spec doesn't really matter either. Just 40-42" non CRT TV.

Need it ASAP but wouldn't mind ordering online and waiting.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    WRONG

    from website

    Screen Resolution 1024 x 768
    aspect ratio 4:3

hd on the other hand is
    HD 720 = 1280 x 720
    HD1080i/p = 1920 x 1080

That doesn't make any sense though, if the resolution is actually only 1024x768 it's not even HD...

Amazon warehouse deals are good for what you are looking for, might also help you replace with a brand name as opposed to a unknown.

course it makes sense, the tv isnt HD, doesnt stop panasonic using HD in its description, its better the SD and the same resolution as a standard laptop screen

    but it isnt actually hd

No no, it doesn't make sense. Sure it's not full HD, but calling it HD when it is not HD doesn't make sense.

    that was my point,
of course the guys making the tv will be happy to tell you its HD and the guy in shop will quote HD, and its better then SD so most people wont question it, but that tv, according to the info you provided is not HD

The info I provided? I was the one asking if it was capable of full HD...anyway, it's 1024x768 according to the Samsung website, so no. Stupid that it can be called HD when it is clearly not.

I said the info you provided
    the link you gave.

yes it isnt HD if you were considering buying one in person do make sure that the resolutions are correct

Reviews of this set on avforums and other sites are very good considering it's such a low price set.Anyone looking for a screen that size would expect to pay a bit more than €435.

except its advertised as HD, sold as HD, and isnt HD

but he has to replace one, i presume he broke it?

if i had a full 1080i/p hd tv, and someone replaced it with a tv that wasnt even 720p i wouldnt be happy

    It is HD .
HDTV has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly three to five times that of SD (1280 x 720 = 921,600 for 720p, or 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 for 1080p).
This tv is 720p ,its a high definition set ,albeit not Full HD.
    SD is generally 720×576.
So a 43 inch tv at 1024x768 is going to look anywhere near as good as a full HD counterpart? Because at the end of the day, numbers aside, we get a tv because it looks good.

Id be wary of gettin a plasma they will always have lifespan and burn in issues. Picture quality in that 43' is good though!

Full HD 1080p 40" Sammy from ASDA for £299.00

You'd have to use www.deliverme.ie to have it shipped here for €22 approx.

    Still works out sub €380

To Good TV's at Tesco currently and Tesco is usually down the road.

A Sony and an LG both are 499euro both 42”.

I installed the Sony for my grandmother last week and its spot on. HD, has the saorview, only one scart socket however their are 3 HDMI.

I have the LG and its spot on as well.

None of these are top of the line however I think premium TV's even those smart internet TV are a pure waste of money. Installed the Samsung smart internet TV and its rubbish; has no internet browser just a limited few locked down internet apps.

How would the warranty work with that ?
Would you have to send it back to the UK or use a local service agent ?

Price has gone back up to £345 & it's outta stock.

If using deliverme.ie, I imagine you'd be referred to a NI service agent but have no experience of it. Warranty may extend beyond national borders with certain brands.
