Bike shops usually have cardboard bike boxes kicking around and are pleased to get rid of them. The sender should be able to pick one up. Then packing the bike may require little more than taking off the pedals and the handlebars.

I had a bike shipped from the UK last year and it was quite expensive, 100+.
