    Not the chocolate one.

My first time driving in 2-3 months

Somewhere past nass another rent a van hogging the overtaking lane at 100k in a 120.

I sit behind for five min waiting before eventually flashing when the road cleared out.

I got a one figure salute. That's a first for me.

I'm sure the pc brigade will call me evil for doing the speed limit or murdering trees with kittens.

I don't think you'll find too many people in here on the lane hoggers side....you scumbag:-P only joking.
Obviously the van driver reckons he owns the overtaking lane, who are you to dare to....overtake!!!:-P

Giving the finger back to these people (not saying you did) just makes them think you're a smart arsed bastard trying to "hog the road".

I just shake my head at these people when I drive past. I think it annoys them more to suggest that there's no hope for them than to just give the finger back. I like to think it makes them go "hmm, maybe, just maybe there's a 1% chance I did something wrong". :D

Was stuck behind a lane hogger on the M50 last week. Black Mercedes coupe. He kept to the overtaking lane from before the Tallaght exit to Blanchardstown or past at under the speed limit.

Refused to move for faster, overtaking traffic even though the lane next to him was clear.

Eventually passed him on the left lane as that was clear for 2+ miles.
So i guess i'm now wrong according to the road mafia for undertaking.

Every time i drive the N7 between Naas and Dublin i end up undertaking. Its been a few years since they upgraded it and people still dont realise it has three lanes.

met an avensis on the M4 doing approx 95kph in overtaking lane. I got tired of flashing my lights so I pulled into the driving lane and waited level with the car. Another car (vw golf) came up behind the avensis and eventually the driver of the golf went crazy flashing lights blowing the horn etc and practically kissing the back bumper of the avensis.
The avensis driver slowed down further and then pulled in behind me.
The golf driver was a twat but the avensis driver eventually got the message

Lane hogging is punishable by death by means of being tied to a chair in a sound proof room with Daniel O Donnell being played on repeat until your ears bleed and brain implodes.

Freakiest one I had was this guy on the M8. I overtook him as he was doing about 100 km/h. Then he immediately overtook me again and drifted back to 100! So, I overtook him again ... He immediately overtook me and once again slowed back down to 100!

I overtook him again and he started flashing and beeping at me!!

    Nut job!

Someone was doing 100.000 kph in a 120 van?

    OP
As far as I am concerned, inability to use motorways, dual carriages, is the most significant road safety issue in this country. Moronic driving like you described disturbs traffic flow leading to clusters of drivers tailgaiting in the overtaking lane, braking continuously, or it leads to undertaking, understandable but dangerous. It also takes all of the joy out of driving. I do a lot of driving and spend a lot of it restraining my urge to murder over this issue. I know motorways are new to us and ignorance of the rules plays a part, but i cant help thinking we are a uniquely ignorant and selfish race none the less.
The Guards should prioritise this issue, because it is criminal.
Problem is most of them cant drive either. Do squad cars have indicators?
Driving needs to be put on the school curriculum, because ignorance is endemic and the Irish race tend towards a mean minded pig ignorant individualism which translates to an infuriating experience when driving.

A man and his white van cut me off thursday just before you enter the M50from the N32. I was in the outside lane and he suddenly decided he was in the wrong lane and moved without any indication. I had to hit my brakes hard. I beeped and flashed my lights. Idiot.

If anyone knows the car park in superquin walkinstown, I came in the entrance at the traffic lights and went to go immediately left going in the correct direction along a one way row of parking spaces. I had cars coming behind me attempting to do the same thing when almost immediately I meet an old dear coming the wrong way, I stop and kind of shrug, what am I supposed to do now, she's blocking me from going forward, cars behind me backed out onto the traffic light junction and her only response was the one fingered salute.

    Exactly where I use it.

I love it when a car races up behind in the overtaking lane, then sits beside you for 5 miles, then finally creeps past...............only to slow down and end up behind you again and the process of creeping up begins again

So who eventually won the stand off?

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Please be more tolerant. You don't own the road? I was only doing my stepper exercise routine on the clutch and throttle as I was late for work and had to skip my home workout and my fruit (and nut) shake. Lucky you didn't pass me earlier. I was doing my make-up while on the stepper....

Now how could a Guard indicate when he is on his mobile?? Are you promoting dangerous driving?

    Yep thats it.

And so many people speed up when your passing it must be subconcious.

Was annoyed today as I was momentarily a lane hogger, at least in the mind of guy behind me.

Was doing bang on 100 in a 100 zone on the M50, was overtaking in the middle lane and moved out into the outermost overtaking lane to pass the chap infront of me. About 6-7 seconds later a Passat arrives up me hole as i'm completing the overtake and starts flashing me to get out of the way. Just because he was doing 120-130kph, he expects to be allowed through. No doubt thinking he was in the "fast lane" and as such is allowed to go "fast".

    Works 2 ways that really.

One shouldn't give a toss what speed someone is doing and move left to accommodate flow but he/she in the Passat wasn't playing by the rules.

They need to also cop on and allow for standard manoeuvres / slower traffic in light of the speed limits.

Works great in the UK ( most of the time ). People whoor down L3 (me included) at about a ton but you slow when necessary.

Love it. Flashing lights etc is a rarity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Yup, great in the UK, on the motorways I was on, the third lane was the 90mph+ lane. Keep up or get out! :D

That Passat should have seen me moments earlier move out and it was clear I was overtaking and not hogging the lane. Was probably annoyed that he had to brake. That said, i've been in his position before when i'm in a rush, still, doesn't make the speeder correct.

Had a tard on the m9 yesterday going southbound.
Woman in a cheap 4x4 was hogging the overtaking lane.
I was in the left driving lane and indicate and move to the overtaking lane about a 100 yards behind her, she hesitates and then starts to indicate and move left, so I start to move up on her right and then she stops and decides to hog both lanes and starts flaying her hands in the air like a person on fire, so I pull back and she finally moves to the left lane and as I creap up on her right she is still flaying her hands all over the place, so I just look at her and gesture to the road and tear off into the sunset.

^^ Bizarre altogether. It must be a scary proposition driving on a motorway and having no clue of the rules of the road.

Did you get the number plate. There is also camera's you can get to fit on the handlebars with great resolution as well. You wouldn't think how effective they are these days with Citizen Journalism now a growing industry. Not sayin' you did either - but you should have. That's just not on. If that was a foreign tourist they wouldn't come back. You know what they say about advertizing.

I never have a problem with someone in a low powered car being slow to proceed with a overtaking proceadure but it maddens me when folks with high powered cars taking an age to overtake and staying in the outer lane for ages...

Appropriate use of the finger at 2:17

Yesterday afternoon, was on N11/Donnybrook Road heading into the City. Stopped at lights at the the Eglington Road junction here http://maps.google.com/?ll=53.319569,-6.232577&spn=0.000013,0.013036&hnear=Dublin,+County+Dublin,+Ireland&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=53.319569,-6.232577&panoid=C0fd-eprMmwYX0xKh2cYkw&cbp=12,279.52,,0,16.37

Lights go green for me to proceed onwards, when a fairly beat looking Mitsubishi runs through the red light from Eglington Rd. Cue much blasting of horns from both myself and the cars coming from opposite direction. The moron then stops the car in the middle of the junction so he can give the fingers to all and sundry, not noticing the Garda 4x4 one car back in the inside southbound lane.
Took great satisfaction in seeing the blues light up, and the look of realisation in the idiot's face.
