When do you get the knocking noise?

    LUK DMF €290 :
    http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.9_2006/p/car-parts/car-transmission/clutch-and-associated-parts/flywheel/?336440770&1&de48e6d26bc9ed41cf0af0db8fde1d4bde3ac37d&000134

    Clutch €175:
    http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.9_2006/p/car-parts/car-transmission/clutch-and-associated-parts/clutch-kit/?641442130&1&7b29127a382bfacfe7c3a42de8b8ea20be6d5f32&000069

So thats €465 and say 40 delivery so €500 for parts.

I would say about 5 hours labour minimum, so that would be approx €250 labour including vat.

So approx €750 total, unless you can get parts cheaper here.

You aren't really doing any harm by leaving it. The noise would drive me insane though.

Cost wise we do supply and fit for €700 using Luk parts same as posted above.

its a knocking noise from the engine is it that doent straight away mean its the fly wheel and clutch you would no by the way the car is driving if the clutch was going.knocking in the engine could be bottem end bairings gone or camshaft bairings its a 06 car you say if your doing alot of driving and or driving it hard that could be the problem. it could also be so simple as a cv joint if the knocking only happens when your turning left or right its more than lightly a cv joint

What makes you say this? Have you seen a component failure on a VAG Golf 5 platform 1.9TDI that can be attributed to continuing to drive the car after the DMF starts to make noise? I haven't and I have seen a lot of them.

Most people leave they flywheel until the initial knocking gets worse, as george said I haven't heard of major problems coming from not replacing a noisy DMF straight away.

I had this problem with my 2005 octy in 2008, i decided to leave it for a while(on advice of main dealer) but within 2 weeks the car stopped on the road, the flywheel having disintegrated. When it disintegrated it it damaged the gearbox causing substantial damage which required installing a new gearbox.

You were extremely unlucky. I have only ever seen that happen to T5 VW Transporters.

Just to add, knocking was coming from my seat toledo, brought it to the garage and my car was diagnosed :-) as the flywheel,They said leave it until it stops as it wont most likely do any more damage to engine.

This might sound extremely unbelievable and i didn't believe it until I saw it but we recently had an A3 with the flywheel knocking, upon replacing it there was still a slighty softer knock, took the crankshaft out and one of the main journals had a hairline crack in it!

I didn't believe it until I saw it but it definitely makes me much more wary of those knocks!

Knocking vibrations cant be good for the engine or gearbox though. If it needs doing why not do it now?

That happened to 2 of my 1.9 TDI caddy's.

It's common in vag cars from 02-09, I believe the newer generation vag cars are much improved. Though seemingly less of a problem with Audi's, however more common with remapped Audi's!

Remapping accelerated the problem greatly. I hear it adds to another growing list of problems with modern diesels!

Another reason I love my Prius!!! no DPF, no DMF, no timing belt, no engine rattle, good economy!

Someone told me it can damage the twin clutch box, can anyone confirm that ?
