    going to look at one of these tomorrow.. anything i should be looking out for?
    noises in engine i should be listening for? never owned/drove a diesel so any tips/advice welcome ;)

    Overall decent cars, I had one for 3 years, a 98 90bhp.


    Things to watch for:

    Door locks - ensure they all work and aren't sticking when you turn the key.

    Check the carpet under the passenger seat, the battery drainplug may have been blocked allowing water into the cabin, not a major deal but something to look for.

    Check that the engine pulls smoothly and there is not excessive smoke, they are generally fairly bulletproof though.

    Get a smooth surface and drive it in a circle lock to lock both sides, listen for any knocking or any other funky noises.

    If you have not driven a diesel before it may be best to bring someone who has along. One that age will be a lot different to any petrol car you have driven. It will sound quite noisy but that is normal. Even things like the accelerator feel will be a lot different, just something to bear in mind.
