Better for what? The GrandVitara has proper off road ability with separate body and chassis, low range gearbox, etc... The Tucson is pretty much a Hyundai Elantra estate that's been jacked up by a few inches. It depends whether you just need to mount the kerb outside a school, the Tucson will do fine, but for serious off roading get the Vitara.

hi,have to disagree with alias no.9, The vitara of the same years as the tuscon 05-09 do not have a seperate body and chasis, same as any car,the older vitara had that idea alright. To get to the orignal question the tuscon would would be the better jeep, the newer vitara has renault design engine and transmission.go for the six speed tuscon as five speed suffered clutch issues.

Define "jeep". Is the Hyundai not two wheel drive compared to the Suzuki four wheel? I'm pretty sure very few Tucsons sold here were four wheel drive.

I stand corrected but the vitara will still be far superior off road.
