Not sure how much info is needed but here it goes

Looking to get a standard white PVC window double glazed (with vent function) put into an existing outside wall on the front if the house.

It would be about 1m tall by about 60cm wide. The outside wall is pebal dash and the inside is tile.

How much would it be do get something like this done and would I need planning permission (what are the costs with this also?).

As you can see not very good at this so be nice about the silly questions!

Thanks folks, bit more expensive than I was hoping :( I'll check with a few people not on the interwebs and also see what else comes back here.

Can anyone enlighten re planning permission?

If your house is a protected or listed structure you will need planning permission, generally if it's not you don't. Any good local AT will advise you on that.

I presume you are removing an old window and replacing it as you describe and re-finishing both inside and outside reveals. I would say a cost of between €500 and €700 would be accurate.

No no its an outside wall on the front of the house with no existing window. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom between them (doors from both rooms into bathroom). The bathroom is about 2.5m x 1.3m very roughly. Both bedrooms have windows in the front wall and the bathroom doesn't. I want to put one in on the front wall. The bathrooms narrow side is the front wall.

    I'll stick up photos later.

Oh! so the job is to break out an opening in the front wall, sopport the head(s), close off the cavity (if there is one), put in a cill, window and seal it up, repair and put on reveals, window board and finish. I would say you would be looking at a bill of around €800 for that.

Changing the front elevation (adding a window) requires planning permission.

i would say all the materials would be around 350/400 euro so if you can get a handy man with some knowledge of that type of work labour should only be around 200/ 250

Few photos attached of inside and outside.

looking at the outside one, the new window would be to the right of the top left one and to the left of the white line down the house.

The inside ones give you an idea of what it's like, and I'd like to tile around the inside of the window as (I think I forgot to mention) it's in a shower! Should be able to use the existing tiles?

The width of the wall is 105cm.

the height of the windows on the far left is 121cm and each of the opening panels are 65cm with the middle one being a bit smaller. Ideally the new window would be about 55cm due to the small size of the wall.

my big question though is would the planning bored want the window to match in height to the existing ones? That puts a very big window in a small space, not completely against it but would like the option of either at this stage. It also means the new window would come down past the border tile.

Lastly, there is a close up of the existing windows

The content of this thread has changed a bit so what I'll do is move this to the C & P forum and retitle the thread.

It hasn't really though, I'm still just looking for a price for it...

The emphasis has changed from pricing to planning.

Would you rather I moved it back to the Prices/costs forum and delete the off topic posts?

Your choice. I can do either.

Well in the first post I asked about the price and a brief querie if planning would be required. Initially the pricing was answered and then a few posts later the question about planning was answere by saying that changing the front elevation requires permission. I have now added more info to enable a better idea on price to be given. Personally I feel it belongs in pricing and costs and left as is.

At the outset it was a toss up for me whether to put it here and have it mainlu pricing question not in the pricing forum with a small planning question or put it in the pricing forum and have a small off topic question if planning was required, without going into detail about what type of planning and how to get it etc. or I could have had two posts one about each. I thought as it mainly is about pricing and a quick question if planning was required (needing a simple yes or no) it was better in the pricing forum.

Your the mod, do what you want / think is best, that's just my reasoning on it. But I'd ask you not to delete posts if possible

Apologies, I didnt see the small bit about planning in your first post :o

Anyhow as the issue of the price has been adequately addressed now its better leaving the thread here in the C & P forum to discuss any planning issues.

It has been established that you will need PP for the window so what I'd suggest is you seek a pre-planning meeting with the local planner and discuss the issue with them.

You could print out 2 copies of the first pic showing the front of the house and on one of them just "draw" the outline of the proposed window. You will be able to gauge it's size based on the divisions of the adjacent window. It's a sort of "before and after" views of the house.

Take that to the planners and see what sort of reponse you get before going to the expense of getting detailed plans.

Is a window really necessary though?

    Cheers

Ye it is, there is a fan but it does nothing really and ventilation is really bad in there. Would be great to have a window
