Rec: 7 day cool vid ban

I have to say I cannot get over how ridiculous this ban is.I get a 7 day ban for posting a youtube video up, of my next sketch.This is hardly considered spam.....its a video.I had mods comment in that thread and they certainly didn't seem to have a problem with it.

When I posted my 1st video "Letting Off Some Steam" , I posted it in the AH section, where then, a kind mod let me know that AH wasn't the place to post them and that Cool Vids was.He said nothing about a ban.Biggins was that users name.

The Recliners message to me:

You have been banned from Cool Vids & Pics & Links for the following duration:

7 Day(s)

for the following reason:

Posting up your own Youtube videos is spamming Please don't do that when you come back from your week off

Providing your ban is not permanent, it will be lifted automatically after 7 Day(s). You will get an automatic message informing you that the ban is lifted. If you do not receive this message after the allotted time, please PM a moderator to clarify.

Now I'm sorry but thats ridiculous.I've posted 2 videos up in my time here, and I've only recently started posting in the cool vids section.I've never promoted these videos whatsoever.It seems some mods like to go on a bit of a power trip, and tbh its turned me completely off this site.

There was no warning issued either.Its getting to the stage where the smallest thing will get you banned on boards.ie.Joke!

What is it about the fact that it's a video that makes it not spam?

I'm sure the lads thought they had every base covered, for the benefit of those who see spam only as "You buy viagra, you bore holes in walls with your 'drill-bit'! link".

Looking back, I'm seeing the same vid (Steam) posted in CVPL and in Bands and Musicians, I'm seeing constant bumping of threads by replying to every comment, and now we have a second vid, except this time the mods stepped in early ... in other words, I'm seeing repeated posting of the same material and self-promotion, i.e. "spam" in the general sense.

It's not the business of mods of other forums to "have a problem" with something posted in CVPL, or to say it on thread if they have ... mods are ordinary users outside their own forums, and the usual back-seat modding rules apply.

Biggins isn't a mod. In any case, my comment above would apply even if he was.

Seems clear and courteous to me, as I would expect from Rec.

Posting them up and constantly bumping them *is* promoting them!

Let's look at it this way: there are over 100,000 users on this site, probably 20,000 of them regularly active. What would happen to this site if each of those were to post up 2 of their own videos?

That's what youtube is for, fair enough. Not Boards.

And the rules, while they may feel ridiculous and restrictive to you, have been developed from over 10 years experience on this site, and indeed from seeing the effects of more lax rules on other sites.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, but a one weeks ban in this case doesn't seem unreasonable.

As for warnings, there is a warning against spamming in the T&Cs and another one in the CVPL forum charter. How many more does anyone need?

Now I wouldnt by any means say that I was constantly bumping my vids.So in a way anyone that posts a vid up in the cool vids section could be classed as spam...

The rule makes zero sense to me.Although I respect that you have answered me and you were courteous in your ways, I'm sick that I was banned for something like that.Thats me, nothing I can do and I know if I don't like it I can go somewhere else which I will.

The rise in people being banned on this site will surely lead to some unhappy customers which I do know.
