    Hi,

Having been a regular of the satellite forum over the years, I too (like many) am at a stage of deciding what is the next step to take with my set-up. Do I go saorview or saorsat. Do I buy a new HD box or a combi?

So if it is possible to maybe do a sticky the mods and regular contributors would know what layout would work best.

But something along the lines of this.

    1) WHAT SYSTEM USING: sky, freesat, saorview, etc
    2) WHAT BOXES: sky box, humax, etc
    3) WHAT SET-UP LOCATIONS: 1 room, 2 rooms, etc
    4) WHERE PURCHASED: sky install, satellite.ie, Currys etc
    5) PRICE: € or £

ADDITIONAL INFO: some info that would be of use to others

Im gonna stick with sky for this year, and have a look at changing when the prices of boxes come down and also depending on what reviews they get in here.

So my own would look like this:

    1) WHAT SYSTEM USING: sky, small aerial slx UHF for 4 Irish Channels
    2) WHAT BOXES: sky+ box downstairs, Sky box for FTA upstairs (changed to UK EPG and UHF aerial
    3) WHAT SET-UP LOCATIONS: 1 sitting room, 1 bedroom
    4) WHERE PURCHASED: sky install, maplin,
    5) PRICE: €15 UHF aerial

ADDITIONAL INFO: Sky package €33 per month (Sky Entertainment Extra)

It may be good to have a quick reference guide for newbies and (oldies) ;)

Watty, I understand about the changeover....and maybe the title was a bad choice. Really meant after the switchover.

Im talking more about what boxes, costs, reviews, and how people have there set-up

for instance how would you fill this in:

    1) WHAT SYSTEM USING:
    2) WHAT BOXES:
    3) WHAT SET-UP LOCATIONS:
    4) WHERE PURCHASED:
    5) PRICE:

    ADDITIONAL INFO:

You might have a better suggestion, If I could have a look at your set-up then I might see you had a humax hd box and got it for €???? from????? and gave it a good review, thats the kinda thing I was hoping for. So if it was good I could decide if it was worth purchasing for my set-up.

    Good idea/bad idea?

    I'd wait a bit.
    1) Saorsat is game changer for those wanting a single box Dual Tuner PVR for Irish TV (likely without Tv3 & 3E initially) and UK TV. It's Officially definite now that it's happening. Expect RTE announcements soon.
    2) There are no Saorview PVRs yet (a Saorview box with USB socket for ext HDD or stick is NOT a real PVR, nor approved as a PVR).
    3) N.I. Mini Mux
    4) Alleged UK/Irish co-operation on Box Standards (to pacify N.I.?)

User reviews are not actually very reliable. They are too anecdotal.

Thanks Watty......There would be a few peoples opinions on here that I would trust. Has got me out of a hole a few times (well several times)

When do you suggest is it good time to start looking at getting new equiptment? I have sky so Im ok at switchover for downstairs at least.

Wait till Saorview PVRs are out about 6 weeks and there is feedback on "real" domestic installs of Freesat + Saorsat dual feed on a freesat HD compatible PVR (since most of the channels are on Freesat and Saorsat will not need retuned.).

    Probably May ... August

There will be some drop in price too.

Before the September/October last minute rush :)

if a person has a humax pvr for instance, will saorsat not be just another satellite that you can tune into with whatever lnb is needed, and could it record the output same as any other satellite chanell

    Not quite.
    You'll need a Ka-band LNBF and non-Freesat mode.

For Freesat + Saorsat you need dual feed on one dish or 2nd dish
    AND
Diseqc switch (two for a PVR) OR a Multiswitch (up to 8 PVRs)
