Concussion?

When playing last weekend I had a head collision in a ruck. I didn't see the guy coming and next thing I knew is that I was on the ground. I had a couple of seconds of not knowing what had just happened and then slowly got back to my feet. I wasn't clued in or very focussed for about 15 mins after and felt quite weak but gradually got myself back into the game and finished the full game. I am presuming I had a mild concussion which I foolishly played on with.

Anyway we have a game again this weekend and i'm wondering what the rules are on playing again. Is there a certain period of time that I cannot play for? I know the rules on this have changed over the years and i'm not too sure what the current line of thought is.

Isn't it a typical ruling that a concussion is a minimum of 3 weeks out

A wise man would refrain from playing and visit his g.p. at the very least. Any period of lost consciousness is not something you should ignore. Imagine you had a 7 year old child who got 'knocked out' even for a few seconds. What would you do?

Yep, the IRB say amateur players should not play for a minimum of 3 weeks after a concussion. Professionals can return earlier with clearance from a Neurologist.

Edit: as poster above said, you should probably visit your GP, i've stated the IRB ruling, however we can't give medical advice on Boards.ie

Go to a doctor before playing any more.

ok I know that technically the question isn't one seeking medical advise only for the law in relation to it but I'm still going to close this as I don't think this is the place for it. The question should be posed to a combination of a medical professional and your club.
