    Hi All,
Am needing to create new email addresses soon.

This Hotmail alias thing just caught my eye

    http://explore.live.com/hotmail-organize-your-inbox?T1=t9

But I don't understand it ? If I create some alias's are they completely new email addresses or is my old email address being used.

I'm hoping this might be a way round all that personal info stuff that companies are wanting now for new accounts.

    Thanks for reading.

One account, multiple email addresses. You have one hotmail account (you use your current hotmail email address to sign into it and even with an alias it's still used for your log in). In it you could now have a few new email addresses (aliases).

All that means is, when you sign up to a website you can either use your main hotmail address or one of your new alias addresses. All emails whether they are sent to your address now or to an alias address will end up in your current account, where depends on what you tell them when you create an alias. You could have them sent to your inbox or to a newly named folder.

Some people would rather certain companies not know their main email address and this alias feature would be perfect for them. I don't think it does what you hope it will. All you are doing is giving the company a different email address than the one you would give to a friend. They'll still ask you for the personal information.

Thank you Diaduit. That sounds like a little bit of good news for once. So now at least I can create some new mail addresses with Hotmail hopefully without having to give a phone number. I was just about to open a new gmail and I would most certainly have had to give them a phone number. Its such an unnecessary request. I think this is going to be very useful indeed. However I do understand that other websites will still ask for numbers etc.

    Thank you again. Much appreciated.

I've been trying to register for a hotmail address and had to give up as it's impossible to read correctly the security thingie, despite refreshing it several times. :(

Just wondered, is it a totally new mail address or just an alias you are creating. If its an alias are they asking for any phone numbers?

Just a new mail address, never had a hotmail one before, didn't have to give a phone number.

Seems refreshing news for once. If its as simple as that with no invasive questioning I'm looking forward for once opening new accounts with them. Well done Microsoft Hotmail!
