I'm sitting on a United flight, it reminds me to ask. One of the audio channels the passengers can listen into is a direct feed from the primary radio. Makes a nice change from the 'easy listening' channel.

I only ever recall seeing this on United, and its subsidiary, Ted. Any other airlines do this, that you know about?

yeah i really enjoy listening to it aswell though on the last 2 United flights it was not available as apparently its down to the Captains discretion and alot of them dont like it being broadcast

I think Birmingham airport has a spotting lounge which features live ATC and/or ground control feed over speakers and plenty of viewing windows as well.

From memory it's accessed through a well stocked Ian Allen shop...?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

don't worry sweetie an aeroplane is perfectly safe you arer more likely to be run over by an elephant than die on a plane or something. anyway don't worry here listen to the pilot fly the plane that will ease your mind.

Because of course "mayday" is such a regular transmission.

In any case if i were in an emergency situation i'd like to be aware of what's going on.

You were listening to Channel 9. Great feature. Have only got a chance to use it 2-3 times. Not sure who else uses it.

In theory yes.....but there was a JetBlue flgiht about 2 years ago that had a nosewheel problem. (would not retract as wheel had been twisted perpendicular to correct position)It had to circle to burn fuel before landing, the pax could all see their aircraft on LiveTV as the newscam's got to the airport before the approach. Apparently it shut down just before landing which scared some pax.

(However i did see TV interviews with pax and 1 mad lady decribed the "Brace brace" call as a mantra which unsettled her)

Can I come and listen in on your next work meeting for "entertainment"?

Slightly related but does anyone know why EI turn off the IFE including Map function on takeoff and on approach. I haven't flown EI on TA since to 2006 and have gotten used to CO leaving the map function on from taxi to taxi. I'm one of them weird types that probably spends more time watching the map than the movies or tv,particularly watching the flight path the aircraft takes.

Was on an EI DUB-JFK flight back in 2009 and on the way over the IFE system was kept on but on the way back it was left off during take off and landing. Could be the pilots preference.
