Am about to pull the trigger on an edge 200..as I'm not interested in heart rate and cadence are there any other compelling reasons I should go for the 500 instead?

If you are not interested in power as well then I can't see a reason to go the more expensive 500.

    I'd get the 500.

You say you aren't interested in power now, but I reckon you might be after 'proper' training kicks in. :D

If I had the cash I would go for the 500 and leave my options open.

hmmm...you could be right especially since I have a tentative plan to do a few bigger events like l'Etape in 2013...though the 200 suits my bike better :D

200 lacks ANT+ right? So it's not just power you can't record but cadence and HR too. And speed on rollers or a turbo. Not sure what the point of the 200 is over a basic cheapo computer. You get to see a nice squiggly line on the map at the end I guess, but without other data like HR then that's not so useful from a training point of view.

    Indeed.

    "What Not To Expect

Pedal cadence is not an option with the Garmin Edge 200. If you like to train by heart rate then this too is not a part of the Edge 200 experience. You cannot transfer data from one Garmin device to another, nor can you receive vibration alerts, heart rate based calorie computation, interval training, or a barometric altimeter. These are all features that you will have to upgrade to the Edge 500 to receive."

Hi Looking for advice. Garmin 200 or 500. Is the 500 worth the extra money.

i got a 200 during the week and have only used it twice, its great bit of kit and is all i want! i dont need detailed mapping and allready had a hrm.

but if you think you will ever want to use hrm and cadance get a 500 even without the sensors which you can add later. but if not the 200 is ideal

Ribble had them for €112 but seem to out of stock at the min. i think handtec are cheap but you need to add postage, crc are about €140 and free postage, so shop around and if you get any good deal on a 500 go for that.
