Driverside window regulator is gone on my Megane. I know it's a common problem but does anyone know if it's a big job to do yourself? I'd rather not bring it to a garage if it's something I can do myself.

    What year is the car?

The dealer should replace it free of charge. RTÉ's The Consumer Show did a piece on the problem, Renault UK have been replacing them free for years and after the show aired Renault Ireland began doing so too.

Renault Ireland are now covering 75% of cost parts and fitting. They were covering 100% but that was before Christmas. You should be looking at paying about €120.

I'm assuming that we're talking about the electric window variety, not a mechanical winder.

If yes, the previous model also has problems with the window regulator breaking, and it's not a massive job to do as long as you have some experience working with vehicles. Tensioning the cables is the biggest hassle.

Having said that, the reason I did this one was the saving. A complete kit of parts to do the repair on E-Bay from the UK site was about £25 including the shipping, and it included all the parts needed to do the repair. Don't know if the parts were genuine Renault or spurious, but they fitted, and are doing the job, the window works again.

The door trim and inner seal has to come off, and the regulator has to be completely removed to make it easy, The kit I got came with fitting instructions that covered all the significant points.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I'm open to correction but the problem stems from the material used for the cables. If rainwater gets into the door the cable can corrode and eventually snap. Renault replace the broken cable with the same part so you are still at risk of it happening again. They also replace the window regulator, even though the old one should function fine, that's why it costs so much from them.
The kits you can buy over the Internet are to just replace the cable, and the cable is made from non-corrosive material so it's a permanent fix.

That's my understanding of it when I looked into it last time, I was going to do the job myself but in the end Renault agreed to do it for free.
