Anyone have any information on the old Killiney (& Ballybrack) station that was just down the rails from where the current one is.

I've heard it mentioned a few times but know next to nothing about it...

There were three stations at Killiney over the years. One titled "Ballybrack" at the south end of Station road where it turns inland towards Ballybrack; the present station originally titled "Killiney & Ballybrack" (presumably on the closure of the first mentioned); at the north end of Station road where the road turns inland and becomes Strathmore Road was the third station sometimes referred to as "the Battery Station" for the nearby British military battery. I imagine Ernie Sheperd's D&SER book covers all the minutiae.

I see the old train station site is currently for sale - maybe Irish Rail should buy it and re-open the station there? I sure that for the majority of people who use Killiney station, it would be much closer than the current one at the beach..

Won't let me post the link, but if you go to huntersestateagent dot ie and search the map view you'll get it.

    That was Ballybrack station.
It and Killiney station at the bottom of the hill, were replaced by the present Killiney and Ballybrack station, when the line was double tracked in the 1880s.

Verona is situated on a quiet road in the heart of Killiney and just a short walk from a host of amenities including the DART, delightful Killiney Beach and local shops.
The road may be quiet, the rail line certainly isn't :pac:
