With the number of public servants retiring late Feb a number of secondary schools will find themselves down teachers and are entitled to employ a new teacher in their place, this effective 1st March.

A number of other secondary schools will find themselves with a surplus of teachers owing to changes in pupil teacher ratios. They have already nominated their surplus staff for redeployment in the summer.

However it appears that a number of these summer redeployments are to be moved forward to the 1st of March and that the surplus teachers who already KNOW they are nominated for redeployment during the summer are to be offered an early move as soon as the 1st of February....move effective 1st of March.

From my sources it appears that government TDs in affected areas ( Kerry and Donegal were mentioned) were to be briefed this week on the implications but the civil servant went sick. They will be quietly briefed on Tuesday morning as a matter of urgency I understand. :)

If a teacher chooses to move they will not be replaced in their old school.

Primary teachers will be redeployed later, probably in summer.

Probably a bad idea to do it during school calender I would have thought?
