My son was born in December 2011 and I will be claiming the single parent tax credit as soon as I get his PPS number.

Since he was born in December will I get the full tax credit for 2011 or just a part of it?

    Thanks!

You get the full credit, it won't be apportioned.

It is granted on a yearly basis which means even if you qualified for a portion of the year, you get the full amount. If you claimed it during a review, then it may have been restricted to the amount of tax paid. Check 2009 in your online account, the full credit should be there.

sorry tax and all that really confuse me! so i requested a p21 balancing statement for 2009 and when it cam back it had listed single parent credit 725.60 then in the account overview for 2009 it says single parent credit 1830 so are they right in only giving me the 725.60 or should i be contacting them ? any advice would be greatfully recieved as i said all this confuses the hell out of me!! from what im being told by other people i should be due tax back from that year

    thanks again

It looks like the full credit has been restricted by the amount of money you earned and tax you were due to pay or had paid. Did you pay any PAYE in 2009? Your P21 balancing statement will show if you did. If you did pay tax, then you probably got back any tax you had paid. If you didn't pay any tax, then you can't get any back.

ya got a letter from the revenue say that im entitled to the credit for 2013 but not 2012 even though i am separated since jan 2012. It says in 2012 i am entitled to recieve full married credit only. They are looking for a copy of my p60 in order for a p21 balancing statement for 2012. Im confused now because in my wifes letter it says she is entitled to the payment for 2012 and 2013.

Receiving the full married tax credit , and receiving a single tax credit + one-parent tax credit , are the same value money wise .
