council rent rates

    just moving into a council house in Waterford.I am renting it.I am working so, i was wondering how do the council assess how much rent you pay? is it a percentage of your pay? any one know any more about this? :confused:

    Most Council rents are based on what they call a Differential Rent Scheme. They vary a bit from council to council but it's basically a percentage of your income with allowances for children etc.

    There's a lot of gobbledegook to read through but the scheme is fairly simple.
