Game cook book

    Hi guys,

I've spoken to the mods about this and they (and the powers that be who run boards) are happy for this to go ahead through here.

I'm interested in trying to put together a cookery book for charity which focuses on recipes which are based on game (and fish!) found in Ireland. The idea is to put something together which shows how you can get great meals which don't involve mass produced meat (although I do love my steak!) and highlight how 'natural' food is better, cheaper alternative to what you get in the plastic packs in the supermarket.

I've spoken with the good people in AWARE and they are willing to help out, they loved the idea actually.

Would people here be interested in putting forth recipes for the project? All proceeds would go towards helping people deal with depression.

I've also spoken with some pro photographers who will do photos of the food (and photos of people hunting, shooting, fishing) for free. Naturally, anyone who puts forward a recipe will have their name credited for it if they wish (anonymous is also fine if that is what the person wants)?
I've also talked with someone who is willing to write up the history of people eating and cooking game in Ireland.

The overarching aim, apart from raising money for AWARE, is to promote the eating of game and wild fish in Ireland, to show just how big a part of our culture it has been and to demonstrate to people that you don't need to be restricted to eating farmed fish, chicken and beef in order to have a nice meal.

What do you guys think? Is this something which you'd be interested in contributing to?

A bit of info about me: I'm from Wexford, am a target shooter and I also do a little bunny bashing on and off. In fact, I bought my .22 from one of the guys on this forum.

Yep, I will chip in. Think its a great idea. Have a nice venison stew recipe. An idea also Salena would be to have a flick through the recipe section at the top of the forum.

Great idea and an even better cause to raise money for.

Just an idea: would you consider putting a piece of writing to state the legalities of hunting wild animals. As we wouldn't want some readers getting the urge and try kill in an illegal manner.
The book is to educate on natural meat, educate on best practice should coincide with it.

Best of luck! Keep us all updated please :)

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all of your replies and hunter21, that is an excellent idea. A couple of pages on the nature and legalities of hunting in Ireland should be included.

I've looked through the recipies thread and there are some very tasting looking menus there all right. I'm not going to publish any recipe unless the author has given permission, but if people here recommend a particular recipe, I'm happy to contact the user and ask them directly.

So, what meals do you people want to see in the book? You can post them up here or else email them to irishgamecookbook@gmail.com

Great idea - why not put in a section that shows the shooting seasons......making people aware of what game is available and at what times of the year.
