Menlo Park

    Hi guys :)
I'm hopefully starting in NUIG in September and I've been advised to start looking at accommodation now.
I'm liking the look of Menlo Park but there doesn't seem to be many reviews of it on boards (it's all Cuirt, Corrib and Gort).
Does anyone have any info on Menlo Park?
What's it like? Distance from College.... If there are many first years etc, etc.

    Thanks! :)

VERY far from college.. Nearly a half hour walk in the rain isn't too pleasant!
Tbh, most people who I've met that live in accommodation that's really far from college are the people who tried to book the more popular places and were too late and had to settle for the likes of Menlo and Centrepoint.

It's early days and you literally have the pick of any student accommodation right now (Corrib, Gort na Coiribe, Cuirt na Coiribe).

I have a class mate who stays there, and as said above it is quite far from the college. There are certainly shorter options, and they cut the Internet for October and the first two weeks of November, they put it down to people downloading films and stuff like that from file sharing sites, which seems fair enough, but cutting off all the apartments for it was a pathetic resort, and a breach of contract with their tenants who weren't offenders. So that doesn't strike me as good, although I heard it's a bit more peaceful than other student accommodation, less dickheads about.

And if its soundproofing is better than Cuirt's, then it can't be too bad; I live in Cuirt myself (because I'm a naive 1st year) and it's like living in an acoustic prision where you can't lock the doors from the inside. Not ideal. I would recommend going private if I were you, but that could be hard to organise if you're from far away lands like myself.

That's bad form tbh, censoring internet like that!

The Cuirt/Gort side of town isn't too bad for dickheads.
You still come across the odd prat though, like you would in any part of the country.

Meh, I'd say student accommodation is the best way to go, in first year anyway. It's better for meeting people, craic, less hassle etc, especially if you are new to Galway!

Going private would be the best option for 2nd year though when you know the City better and know what areas to avoid and are more used to living away from Mammy and Daddy! :p

I would definitely go for student accommodation in first year, it's a lot more difficult to meet people if you live in private housing, and you probably don't have much experience of the city so you could easily get ripped off. Stay away until at least second year!!

And as for Menlo, my friend lived there in first and second year. She loved it but have to agree that it's quite a distance from the college. I don't think it's worth it!!
