Are Gardaí drug tested?

There's a story going around the town about a local guard who was transferred from "up the country" for being on drugs.

To be honest I think the story is complete drivel but it got me wondering whether or not Gardaí are drug tested.

Before anyone asks I'm not thinking of becoming a Guard.

    Thanks

The cops on duty at the Shell protests in Mayo often smell of drink.

    Drugs would surprise me though.

Are you sure the smell isn't from a former schoolteacher?

    I think that's your gullibility.

    I think that's your gullibility.

Maybe it's from the protestors themselves, who seem to have the means to survive a life of leisure, wile everyone else tries to work for a living?

How did you get so close to smell a garda's breath anyway, unless you were one of those misguided "protestors".

Why is "protesters" in inverted commas?

I was just going to say, that sounds like a fairly paranoid viewpoint. I doubt they were drunk.

Mod - how do you back it up? Do you name & shame? I personally know of a Guard that drinks before going on duty but I'm hardly going to say any circumstances on here but I know it's a fact so am I going to be banned for saying this? so - how does someone back this up for you? Just a thought..........

Make a complaint http://www.gardaombudsman.ie, follow it through, get a result and then post the link to the news of it.

And next time PM a mod, don't question one on thread.
