    quick question
do you have to go over a certain amount to claim back relief on health expenses?
or is it 20% back on all qualifying expenses.
i thought last time I applied it had to be over a certain amount but cant find that now

It's 20% of all expenses so long as they have not already been covered by private health insurance and they are an actual allowable expense.

It here used to be an excess of €125 or €250 for 2 or more people claimed for. This was last in place in 2006 though. So, as Relax says, 20% of all allowable expenses is the amount of relief available.

Well they calculated out health relief very quickly and sent a p21 balancing statement. We owe them 600 for one year and 300 for another :( don't understand how this could happen as we both get paid by govt departments so you would expect they would get the tax right when we get paid !!!

There your first mistake - you regularly come across people who haven't been subject to the correct amount of PAYE.

Did you submit a form 12? Are the figures all correct on the P21 (I assume) you received?

    I'll double check the p21 figures again. What's a form 12 ?
The really suprising thing was how quickly it was all done.
I did not receive my p60 till last week and did the health claim online. Very quick turnaround of only a week or so

It would have been a completely automated service which would explain how quickly you received the P60. A form 12 is a form you submit to the Revenue.

Check the figures on the P21 and let me know if they are correct.
