    Hi folks. Stupid question alert.

Are prize bonds visible to the social welfare or revenue? I'm going to be assessed for JSA soon and my Da has the same name as me. He has a nice few quids worth, and I'm worried that the SW or Revenue will think its me!

I'm sure your DOB will sort that out.

Why, do you have to give your DOB when buying prize bonds? He bought them about 10 years ago, at which time I would have well-and-truly been working age. How can I prove they're his?

Do I have any statutory requirements?

In accordance with the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act, 2010, purchasers must supply their date of birth and must provide documentary proof of (1) name and (2) address.

In accordance with the Finance Act 2004 purchasers who do not already hold Prize Bonds will be asked to provide proof of (1) name, (2) address, (3) country of residency and (4) tax reference number (or place and date of birth if a tax reference number is not available), in the event of winning a prize.

    Can Prize Bonds be transferred?

Yes. Telephone State Savings™ on 1850 30 50 60 and choose option 5 and then option 2 and ask for the Transfer of Bonds form. Transfers can be made for any €6.25 unit or multiple thereof.

My worry was that during the means testing, the name Newmug McNewmugnessy from Ballynewmug would come up and they'd think it was me. Then they could accuse me of not declaring assets, which aren't mine, but I'd have no way to prove that.

Shifty, do you know if it was the case that ID would have to have been shown 10 years ago? I dont think it was somehow!!!

When you fill in the forms and sign the declaration you are taken at your word. The data protection act stops the dept checking if anybody has other undeclared bank accounts, prize bonds ect. Therefore honest injun on the form no worries.

If you hold no prize bonds just state that fact at your interview if you are asked.

If you do hold some Prize Bonds you can, if required, provide evidence of the value of your holdings of prize bonds by now requesting the Prize Bond Company to supply a "consolidated statement" of all prize bonds in your name. You must supply current and all previous addresses and explain that you want to distinquish between your holdings of Prize Bonds and those of your father.

The Prize Bond Company will use name, address and signatures on your original Prize Bond application form as verification. Your consoldiated statement will be be issued to you in a few days.

This should exclude any prize bonds that have been purchased by your father who presumably has a different signature.

An Email to Service@StateSavings.ie or call State Savings on 1850 30 50 60 to commence the process of receipt of a "consolided statement".
