Those look like just surface rust that hasn't eaten through anything yet?
Start with toothpaste on a damp cloth.
    Plenty of elbow grease.

    Maybe soft steel wool.

Did you try anything yet? Google throws up some suggestions.

I'd second that too. Or a rub with WD40 can be surprising too.

Unfortunately, the chrome layer is broken through at each spot, so the steel below is now exposed to the air and water. But they will clean up OK most likely, and keep and eye on them so they dont grow. A rub with an oily rag might help.

I would be using 0000 steel wool
Then rust treatment. It really needs rechroming though especially if its outside

Sorry to drag this thread up again but I'm going to have a go at removing the rust spots from my E30 this weekend. I have a few small areas like a wheel arch and inside the drivers door to go at. Are there any brush tools I can use with a hand drill to take the rust off before I fill them?

Any links as to where I can buy something?

What are you doing, treating rust spots on paint or chrome?
If its rust spots on paint, I would use one of the small detail wirebrushes that come in the paint touch up kits, then use rust killer (tannic acid) and once dry sand flush and touch up with the paint kit.
