    Guys
Found 2 sellers who are hammering the pants off the IRish retailers here for a TV.

Looking to see if anyone has got it collected there in the UK and who you used.

Would I even try to contact UK companies to see if they deliver over here.

    Many thanks

If it's businesses you're looking at, then they might ship it here by courier. That would be costly enough, though worth it if the savings are big. Factor in the hassle of returning it if anything goes wrong though.

If the won't deliver, then something like Deliverme.ie might work, though I think there are restrictions on the size of the items you can get, and of course there's an added cost.

If the prices you're looking at are too good, then you should start to suspect if they're real at all. Many scam sites out there.

Deliver me is a great option. Thanks for that! :)

margins on TVs are very small (less than 15%) and most irish stores compete very well on price with UK stores of similar style. e.g. DID / Power City / Currys will be about same price as similar stores in UK for same TV. Therefore I'd be very very careful about anything offered well below normal prices as they are either stolen, or something else is wrong.

Curry's perhaps (though significant anomalies between their UK/ROI stores are often brought to the attention of their MD on the Curry's forum), but DID / Power City & Tesco Ireland are way off UK pricing. The practise of price matching @ John Lewis and Richer Sounds, the behemoth that is Amazon and the sheer volume of suppliers to the UK market keep electrical retailers on their toes, in a way that simply doesn't happen here.

Far from it I am afraid.

The TV I am looking at is 300 euro dearer here without the 4 pairs of 3d glasses and without the 5 year warranty which John Lewis are offering.

All you mentioned above can't touch John Lewis in price.

You aren't a tv retailer here in Ireland by chance? I hear the same clap trap from car dealers over here for the last 10 years!

If I got that clap trap response from a beginner poster, I'd laugh. But from a moderator!!! FFS - just because someone gives a effin view on something doesn't mean they have a connection to the subject.

In the same vein - should I ask if you are an employee of John Lewis?? - Yep a STUPID question.

Oh and if you really know my answer - NO. And my views came from buying a TV recently and there was virtually no difference between Currys UK and DID price when I used the REAL rate of exchange (currently multiply the sterling price by 1.23 to get the price you will pay via debit / credit card - so in case your math is not good, £999 = €1229. )

He/she may not be a moderator on this forum, but I'd expect better than that childish type of retort from a moderator of any forum. - Or maybe any type of eejit can be a moderator on boards these days and not have basic respect for what another poster says?

tut tut, don't be getting personal now, it won't end well.

As said I am not a moderator on this forum, anyway back on topic.

There are other retailers out there apart from Currys UK, its having the ability to go and find them and getting a deal, something that even though some places in Ireland try its still not going to touch the bargains and price match on offer in UK stores.

For the others who are looking a bargain on their next TV purchase, if you find a site there in the UK who, in a lot of cases, be cheaper than Ireland, sent in a price match request into John Lewis or any of the others and see if they price match.
In most cases they will, but John Lewis swung it as they included a 5 year warranty (worth 256 euro here) in with all their TV's.

Ordered the TV today, so will be with me Monday next and 323 euros in my back pocket with the savings I made.

    Happy days indeed :D

Just on the warrenty, is it worth it if you have to go to Uk to get it fixed? Have never paid for a warrenty so not sure if thats good value

    Hi
The TV is the Samsung UE40D7000.

The warranty is world wide, so you don't need to send it back if there are issues to John Lewis.

    Thanks

I was looking at that same model in Power City and it was just over €1100. If there's a €300 saving in John Lewis, I'd love to get one from there. Do they deliver or do you have to arrange collection yourself plus what was delivery charge? I assume the price was about £650/£700? Brilliant for that TV

1100 euro for the bog standard TV, add in 3 (some give 1 pair) or 4 pairs of glasses and then the warranty on top.

You need to find the deal and then send JL a price match request.

    Thanks

Not Trying to piss ya off or anything but let say something happend to the tv,do you expect a local independent to be responsible if your tv breaks down even though you bought it in uk,bare in mind that that SOGA overrides any warrenty and specifies that your contract is with the retailer ,assuming that their is no John Lewis in Ireland

    Hi,
I had made contact with Samsung to verify that my warranty will stand. They will take care of the warranty if anything arises in that period since JL aren't in Ireland.

    Thanks

Just haggled Power City in Naas to do it for 1100 + 2 sets of glasses and a 2 year warranty. I've never had a TV break down, so I'm not too concerned on the warranty. Its in the car and will be set up tomorrow, AND they were a pleasure to deal with, which is always a nice bonus.

Not too bad, having mine delivered for 1055 with the 4 sets of glasses and the 5 year warranty.
    Enjoy the TV! :)
