Hi Kwik from Ballinasloe lower suck area and was down today river is still high.
Not totally unfishable but id not travel down from dublin just yet.
Because its course has such a low gradient it really spreads over a wide area when it floods.

upper suck is high but still fishable in places.
i would not expect this to last much longer due to the rain we are currently having.
ballyforan has been very bad and unfishable since last september there abouts.

Got the train down 9 days ago you cross the river just as you pull into the station was like a giant lake.
    Water spread over the fields.
However the last 9 days have been dry ill try and get some info im probably going down myself on friday so can give you the heads up.
A few more fine days ahead should be going down a few inches a day.
Not cast a line in 6 months gaging for a day at the river.

Conditions on the Suck are perfect. I understand that IFI staff were out yesterday checking for permits and giving on the spot fines to anglers who didnt have one

Don't suppose you know where the river is flooding or where it's high
Was thinking of heading down to athleague
    And maybe further down

I dont believe that its high anywhere. Pike Federation have a competition scheduled for Athleague on Sunday. There is a chance that it may be moved to a non permit water as I am told that IFI guys will be all over the river again next week and very few of the guys fishing on Sunday would have permits

    Il avoid athleague so
Don't like to be disturbed while fishing :)
    Might head towards castlerea direction
Any word on pike numbers this year?

Several posts deleted. Natdog and dodderangler mind the personal insults. Warnings / infractions issued next time. Any issues between yourselves, your clubs and permits take it to PM

got fined last September for no licence myself. A youngish fela and and older man came down.fined me 150 quid, seized my 2 rods, landing net and gear box. I will never let that happen again for the sake of 40 euro.

Met these guys a number of weeks back again. They were fairly polite 2BH. They seem to be upping there activity on the Rivers in Galway, Roscommon recently. I heard they are using canoes to travel in inaccessible areas.

Look- dodderangler, you may avoid them for a while, but from my recent experience you WILL be caught. Its not a nice feeling, but the law is there and I think we all should pay our dews!! along with all the other taxes!! :-)

By the way, the day i got fined, I witnessed them taking fish of a FN and fining him also, which made me feel worse. I felt like i was a poacher.

    That's good to hear.

Pity they're 10 years too late.
