Clothing on bike

    Hi there,

I've a connundrum that has stayed with me for a time. How on earth does a vain chap manage to not look like a plonker on a bike? What I mean is, can anyone recommend some funky, functional clothes for 150 km per week bike commute. Yes, I know the benefit of wicking. Love the functional side of the waterproof/windproof materials. Get the slim fitting black, high end branded clothing. Have the clipped in walk around town shoes, and the slinky base layers (I like the merino). However, my other half still looks at me like I'm a total tosser as I walk out the door.

Any bike funksters with some good advice?

    Get a new wife.

Walk around the house naked instead and she'll be begging you to put on your cycling gear.

Very assuming of you to presume he has a wife. He said 'other half'.
Surely in this day and age we should be truly open minded about these things.

I have to say, though I appear to be in a minority, that I never felt the need to wear any clothing other than my usual clothing for weekly commutes, including commutes of more than 150km a week.

My usual clothing is very casual admittedly.

Whats more, in this open, non-monogamous, polyfidelitous world we live in, it would be even more assuming to presume that his wife and other half are one in the same person

Should be a few candidates for both sexes here:

Well, ok, but he does have a certain devil-may-care.

You could just wear Lycra all the time instead

    My exact thought.
When I was 10 jeans and a t-shirt was appropriate cycle wear and I don't see any reason to start dressing up in lycra now.

Stop it. You all know the answer.

The coolest looking cyclists I see are those who look like they're about to compete in the Tour De France yet are only on their commute.

People who take themselves seriously, get taken seriously by others.

its obvious - invest in a bulk delivery of Paper Overalls - to wear over your lycra when in the house
1.50 a pop and you dont even have to wash them

I did this at first when I got back into bike commuting but I found all my trousers were wearing through at the crotch. The padded bibs seem to cope better with my abrasive nature...

    Thanks guys,
I'm going to walk around the house naked from now on, dump my other half (who is female), dress up as a butcher on the weekend, wear my normal clothes on the way to work, head to toe race gear on the way home, invest in some paper clothing for the rest of the time. I can't wait for tomorrow- it 's going to be fun!

Ok, you're vain, shallow and silly enough to say that here so I feel duty-bound to mock you, however a lot of people beat me to it :(

That's perfectly normal. I'd be very suspicious if my "other half" complimented me on my cycling apparel!
