    Hi IT crowd,

Just a quick question for you, Im looking to buy a new laptop and will need it to be compatable (or as close as my budget can get) with Adobe CS5 Premium suite.

I have a budget of up to €1200 and have already ruled out a Mac because it is too expensive.

Appreciate any advice, wont appreciate a Mac vs PC war.

    Thanks

    meangene

Or a Dell XPS 17 with quad core i7 is going for €1199. Should be a 10% coupon floating about that you could use with it too.

Thanks for the advice, I like the Toshiba though, very reliable laptops. Can anyone think of cheaper options.

Dabs have a good few other Toshiba laptops.

    Here is the laptop section

On the left you can pick the things you want on it and it'll filter out the rest. I'd recommend i5 as a start.

    All Toshiba with i5

    Right its come down to two machines, please help me decide;

    Dell XPS L502x – i7-2630QM (2.00Ghz, 8Threads, 6MB cache)
Hard Drive 750GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
Dell System Media Kit XPS L502x Resource DVD (Diagnostic & Drivers)
    Processor 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor (2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz)
    Memory 6144MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [1x4096 + 1x2048]
    Wireless Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 (1x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo Card)
    Video Card 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M Graphics Card
    CD ROM/DVD ROM 8x DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
LCD 15.6" (40 cm) HD WLED TL (1366x768) 720p with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera

    OR

    Toshiba Satellite Pro L770-136 - Core i5 2430M - RAM 8 GB - HDD 750 GB - W7 Pro 64-bit - 17.3"
    System TypeNotebook
    Operating SystemWindows 7 Pro 64-bit
    ProcessorIntel Core i5 2430M / 2.4 GHz ( 3 GHz ) / 3 MB Cache
    Memory8 GB DDR3
    Storage750 GB HDD / 5400 rpm
    Optical DriveBlu-ray Writer
    Display17.3" LED backlight TruBrite wide 1600 x 900 / HD+
    GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GT 525M - 1 GB DDR3
    Networking802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 HS , Gigabit Ethernet

I think the glaringly obvious choice is the Toshiba, but they are both around €1100. I want to get this right

Actually the xps has a better CPU, and better HDD. What I would reccomend is that you go to the students sections of the dell website (they don't check as far as I know) here http://www.dell.com/ie/p/employee-purchase-program-laptop-deals?cs=ieepp1&c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cid=EppDealsLaptops&dgc=IR&lid=SHP_BK2&redirect=1, that XPS is 17 inch, better processor than the toshiba, better hard drive, better GPU and much cheaper. Also theres a 10% discount code going around somewhere, see if that'll work with it too.

If you still have cash leftover, I'd recommend you upgrade the screen seeing as your using it for photoshop. EDIT: Scratch that, I see the screen upgrade is 500 euro! Not worth it! Do it somewhere else after you buy it if you need.

    A Dell L702x with i7 2670QM / GT 555M is much better than the toshiba (i5 / gt525m) , plus its only €1049 right now.

Went with the Dell for €1045.00, haven't got CS5.5 yet, but happy with my choice so far, thanks for all the advice

Definitely made the right choice there anyway. Although the screen is tiny. You should connect it to a bigger monitor when you're using the Adobe suite, it would be a massive improvement.
