when lodging cash in the bank to another persons account a friend put in the wrong account number. Should the money actually go anywhere since the account name and number wont match and is it possible to trace where the money is as she said she didnt put any of her contact details on the paper when lodging the money and doesnt have the stub off the form?

Assuming the "wrong" account number is a valid number, the lodgement will go to that account, and it's up to you to ask the account holder for the money back...

If the account number doesn't exist the money will be held at the branch or in a holding account.

If it does it's in someone elses account.

Either way ring the bank now and explain. Don't wait and hope for it to fix itself. You'll never see it again.
