Check for broken wires at the drivers door A pillar where the loom goes into the door.

Maybe the comfort control module under the floor is starting to go. Any wet carpets lately?

no sign of break in, carpets are dry i was thinking the damp weather might be the cause of it acting up. sometimes the boot wont shut and i have to slam it down hard a few times to get it closed could that be causing it.

I meant have the wires broken inside the black rubber boot that runs between door and A-pillar. Not from an attempted break in just from wear and tear. It is a common problem with many cars including that shape A4.
