Tamron 28-75 or Canon 18-200mm?

Well seeing as how I am now living stateside, I figured it was about time I played around with some new glass. Since starting my new job, I havn't really had time to get out and about with my 450d - so hopefully a new piece of glass will help me out.

I don't have my heart set on one lens/manufacturer over another - I'm looking for real world opinions. I enjoy alot of indoor shots and always enjoy a wider angle lens for the postcard home snaps. That being said - I've never owned anything over a 50-55mm so I don't really know what (if anything) I am missing.

I do prefer a lens like my 50mm f1.8 in low light conditions - so I know I will be sacrificing this if I get an all rounder!

So do I get a jack of all trades lens or a more narrow range?! I hate to say it - but I am looking for a walk about lens. (makes me cringe to say that because I know how generic it sounds!)

If I go Tamron then I get a staff discount - but even if I go canon I can get a discount on the Amazon prices too - so anything less then $700 will do!
