Plastic insert on wooden window box

Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I bought a window box and it has a plastic insert. Do I need to punch holes in the wood and plastic to allow for drainage or do I leave it as is? I want to grow herbs in it.

You could put holes in the bottom of it, or put some gravel in the bottom of it to allow a bit of drainage but be careful not to over water it

If you do drill hole in the bottom of the plastic bit, the water will just collect in the wooden box, or is there holes in it?
