Hi, not sure if I put the correct title on this thread. My boyfriend and I have had seperate accomodation up until now. I am on lone parents with one child and he is on disability. However he has been taken seriously ill and when/if he leaves hospital I will become his carer. Obviously this means we need to find a place for us all together. I have spoken to the cwo and threshold and am getting conflicting advice. The cwo told me to sign off lone parents and put myself down as his dependent and then get reassessed for a deposit for a new residence, but i have to find the property first before they can consider a deposit. Threshold told me to get approved for a deposit first and then find accommodation. I've got all the forms for carers allowance etc but can't fill them in until he comes home and if i sign off on lone parents i won't have any income until his increased disability comes through. As you can imagine all this has become a minefield and I don't know where to go to get all the best information. I want to make sure we do this in the best way and be totally honest with welfare. Any advice?

The rules surrounding deposits seems to vary from area to area. I know in some parts of the country it is the Local Council who provide deposits, in others neither the council or the CWO will entertain requests for deposits. As ultimately it is the CWO who will approve your application for Rents Supplement I would go by what they are advising you. If possible get anything you can in writing.

Applications for Disability are taking a long time to process and I presume changes in payments to people who are already getting a payment will also take a long time. When you come off the lone parents the CWO should give you a Supplementary Welfare Allowance until your claim is finalised.

Thanks, the whole system is a nightmare really. It's been fairly tough just dealing with his illness while trying to deal with all the red tape as well. The good thing is that once I find a place we should get back both our deposits which will help with future rent and helping to make him comfortable. I'm going to try and push for council acc as well though. Meeting with consultants secretary for letters etc friday. nightmare all around. thanks again
